Aussie Books For Zim launches social media campaign to raise $16,000

Aussie Books for Zim are joining the crowdfunding revolution as locals get behind Alfred Chidembo’s campaign to raise $16 000 on StartSomeGood.com.
“We are super excited about this next phase of our project as we are looking at making a bigger impact in 2019. With over 60 000 books, library furniture and stationary collected, we are ready to ship these to Zimbabwe from Australia. From this shipment, we will be able to set up over 30 libraries in total, directly influencing over 10 000 children.” Dr. Chidembo said. “By working together and through the power of social media, we can empower children in disadvantaged communities and change their lives forever through improved literacy.”

The books will be shipped to Zimbabwe by the end of 2018 and distributed in time for the Term 1 2019 so that children can start improving their literacy from Day 1. To date, the project has received overwhelming support Australia-wide and as far afield as The Netherlands. Recently, Ausssie Boks for Zim received books from the Netherlands to set up libraries in Zimbabwe: all this facilitated by well-wishers in Amsterdam.
The organization have since shipped over 30,000 books and some stationery for the first lot of libraries. Mavhurazi Primary school in Mudzi, Chinembiri SDA Primary School in Rusape and Parirewa Secondary School in Domboshava, Zimbabwe have benefitted so far with many more libraries planned for 2018 and beyond. Over AU$21 000 worth of school uniforms have been donated to rural schools and AU$15 000 worth of rugby equipment donated to Victoria High School in Masvingo, Zimbabwe in 2017.

“JCI Australia is proud to work with Aussie Books for Zim. Said Sarah Lisle, JCI Australia President. “As a global movement of active citizens we create development opportunity that creates community impact. Together with our colleagues in JCI Zimbabwe we look forward to working together to create ‘global’ impact and collaborate to strive to achieve action against the UN SDG’s including SDG#4 Quality Education. As education does change lives!”
